And yet, as I listened to these four young women laugh at the stereotypes and fears that had discouraged so many others, I was heartened that even these few had made it this far, that theirs will be the faces the next generation grows up imagining when they think of a female scientist.

As educators, we have a responsibility to our future students to help them become the best individuals that they can be. We have the responsibility to give equal opportunities and encouragement to all of our students no matter what their gender is. We have the power to encourage and inspire future generations of female scientists. Remind your students that their hard work does not go unnoticed.
In addition to encouraging your students, you can learn more and encourage yourself to become stronger in the STEM areas. If you are confident about these subjects and you are excited to share the material with your students, they will be excited to learn from you. Create a solid foundation and give them a place that they know they can come back to when learning gets tough. |
