STEM education focuses on the connections between these four subjects and how they are all equally important and related to the real world. When students are involved in STEM instruction in school, they are engaging in problem based learning. Students are given the opportunity to have hands on experience in all four fields and see how the subjects work together. STEM education engages students in critical thinking and helps to improve their problem solving skills.

Why is STEM Education Important?
Many of the jobs that will be available for students in the future utilize and are rooted in the four subjects addressed by STEM education. In order to give today's students an edge in the future job market, we need to prepare them in the areas with these skills. In addition to an understanding of the four core subjects in which STEM education is based, students develop valuable problem solving and team working skills that will be useful to them in every job they encounter in the future.
STEM is a part of our every day lives, from trips to the grocery store to computer use to appreciating nature. The world is changing and technology is advancing. In order to give today's students the best chance at successful careers, we need to do our best to get them interested in STEM subjects and provide the best foundation in STEM education that we can offer. If we promote an interest in these subjects at a young age, we can inspire a new generation of innovators who will continue to make the world a better place. |
